The documentary -- inspired by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn's book of the same name ? travels to ten countries around the world and introduces women and girls who are living under some of the most difficult circumstances imaginable ? and fighting bravely to change them. Travelling with intrepid reporter Nicholas Kristof and A-list celebrity advocates America Ferrera, Diane Lane, Eva Mendes, Meg Ryan, Gabrielle Union and Olivia Wilde, the film reflects viable and sustainable options for empowerment and offers an actionable blueprint for transformation. The multi-city screening is part of a larger initiative, Half the Sky Movement Global Engagement Initiative, a USAID-supported program that seeks to use media and technology ? including film, short video, gaming, and social media -- to challenge harmful gender practices and norms by fostering discussion around specific issues and promoting alternative discourse, knowledge, and behaviour.
